Athletistic / Chess. The 16th world chess champion, Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, won the chess tournament in Casablanca (Morocco). In these competitions, the Scandinavian did not lose a single match, earning a total of 4.5 points.
The American Hikaru Nakamura took second place in Morocco (3.5 points) and third place went to the Indian Viswanathan Anand (3).
The day before, May 19, in the 2nd round, all players in the Casablanca chess tournament were given positions based on historical games for their next match for the first time. After two minutes of studying and arranging the pieces, the actual game began. The World Chess Federation (FIDE) introduced this new version of the chess game in 2024. It is tested for the first time in Casablanca. This tournament is organized by the municipal administration and the Casablanca Stock Exchange.
Magnus Carlsen was world chess champion from 2013 to 2023. One of the youngest grandmasters in the world, he became one on April 26, 2004 at the age of 13 years 4 months 27 days.
