Bedny and Gutzeit also called on the world community to unite at the June Peace Summit in Switzerland
Ukraine officially approved its participation in Olympic Games 2024 years in Paris.
This decision was announced at a meeting of the head Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny and the president National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit with representatives of Ukrainian and foreign media.
The official statement reads:
“Our athletes are heroes who train under occupation, under shelling, often losing loved ones. Their courage and will to win deserve the greatest respect and support.”
“Ukraine bravely defends our common peaceful space every day. That is why we call on the international community to unite at the Inaugural Peace Summit, which will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland. This Summit will be a platform for important discussions and the development of a joint action plan based on the Ukrainian Peace Formula.”
“We call on all who share the values of peace, justice and sports brotherhood to actively support the efforts to host the Inaugural Peace Summit. Together we can resist aggression and restore peace.”
The slogan of Ukraine at the Olympic Games was also formulated: The Will to Win.
Let us recall that at the beginning of December 2023, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to admit participants from Russia and Belarus in the status of “individual neutral athletes” to the 2024 Olympic Games. In response, Matvey Bedny called the IOC’s decision “irresponsible.” In turn, Vadim Gutzeit spoke about plans to assemble his own admission database regarding “neutral” athletes admitted to the 2024 Olympic Games.
For some time there was talk about a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games by Ukraine, but this position was considered unconstructive back in the winter.
The other day, Gutzeit said that Ukrainian athletes will not be able to perform any actions reminiscent of the war in Ukraine during the 2024 Olympics. Earlier, he also reported that Ukraine had already obtained 73 licenses for the 2024 Olympics. The NOC President expects that the final number of trips for Ukrainians will increase by 30-40 percent.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11. At the competitions, 329 sets of awards will be awarded in 32 sports.
