Moroz: This is football – whoever scores wins. We have to go out and win every game.

Mentor of the youth team – about the disappointing defeat from Serbia and plans for the next matches

Head coach Ukrainian national team U-17 Yuriy Moroz commented on his team’s defeat from Serbia (0:1) in the first round European Youth Championship 2024.

“In the second half we had an advantage, but we couldn’t convert the chances we had. But we have two more matches, we will prepare, all is not lost.”

“The Serbian quick goal didn’t break our tactics, but it confused us a little. The guys lost the fight a little in the first half, and this missed goal was precisely because of this. We pressed ourselves against our goal, and the opponent shot and hit.”

“As you can see, there is some bad luck. Stepanov moved well, had many chances, but everything went close to the goal. The substitutions strengthened our game. Redushko and Soroka came out, structured play inside the field and possession of the ball appeared. But this is football – whoever scores wins.”

“Our strategy for the tournament? This defeat won’t change much. We have to go out and win every game.”

“Today we had a conversation with Andrey Shevchenko before the match. He met with us and wished us good luck. I also want to thank Ukrainian fans for their support.”

Let us remind you that the young Ukrainians missed the only goal very quickly, already in the second minute of the match. During the match, the blue-yellows attacked more often, shot a lot on goal, had chances, but did not capitalize on them.

Next, Ukraine will play against the Czech Republic on May 23. In the final round, the blue-yellows will play against the hosts of the competition, the Cyprus team, on May 26. The final of the Youth European Championship 2024 will take place on June 5.
