Plushenko said he had a fifth spinal operation

Double Olympic figure skating champion Evgeny Plushenko reported that he had undergone his fifth spinal surgery.

The skater performed at his own show in Baku, wearing a triple sheepskin coat.

– You also didn’t stay without jumping today – you made a triple sheepskin coat.

— I’m still making that jump. Even though I only had surgery three months ago…

– Not scary?

— This is my fifth spinal operation. After that I played in Minsk, Tashkent and now Baku. In total, this is already my 19th operation under general anesthesia, so I already know how to recover, how to prepare for performances.

This is not the first operation that Dmitry Nikolaevich Dzukaev performed on me. He worked on my lower spine. In Israel, they installed a structure which, unfortunately, failed me at one point: I could no longer support myself on my leg, I limped. It’s essential because I’m with my guys at the rink and on the ice all day, I need movement, I need mobility, I need to work. You still have to do your own shows!

In general, Dmitry Nikolaevich and I decided to replace this structure – he removed the old one and installed a new one. A very serious operation which lasted 5 hours. The Dzukaev Clinic provides proper rehabilitation and recovery. That’s why I came back to show jumping,” Plushenko said, as quoted by Sport24.

In addition to two Olympic gold medals, Plushenko has two Olympic silver medals, three World Championship gold medals and seven European Championship victories.
