Double Olympic champion Evgeny Plushenko said he didn’t convince the skater Makara Ignatova go to Plushenko’s Academy of Angels from Evgeniy Rukavitsyn’s group.
Earlier in May, Ignatov announced his transfer to Plushenko’s group.
— Recently, the famous singles player Makar Ignatov came to see you. How did it happen?
– It’s entirely Makar’s decision. He wanted to come to me so I could care for him and train him. My position, which I have expressed several times: athletes choose for themselves. I don’t feel like I’m calling out to someone: “Come train with us.”
In our figure skating there is a headquarters that attracts athletes, but I’m not here for that. An athlete must grow, make certain decisions for himself – after all, he must train, he must perform.
I can say about Makar that he works very well. He looked great at the show in Baku. We are currently doing a lot of work on gliding. The short program has already been staged.
– Who is the director?
— Nikita Mikhailov choreographed a short program. Next we will look at the free program. On May 20 we work the last day of this season, then we go on vacation and from June 3 we enter the new season. Everything is new for Makar, but he works really hard.
— Have you discussed his transition with Evgeniy Rukavitsyn?
– Certainly. Evgeniy and I are good comrades. I called him and told him that this decision was made by his athlete. And we had a normal conversation. It’s a must,” Plushenko said, as quoted by Sport24.
Ignatov is a silver medalist at the Russian Championship, a two-time winner of the Russian Cup final and a stage of the international Challenger Nebelhorn Trophy series.
