Ederson’s understudy is, among other things, interested in more consistent playing practice
Manchester city can’t find a consensus with his goalkeeper Stefan Ortega regarding the extension of the contract until 2026.
As journalist Florian Plettenberg reports, one of the main disagreements is the financial aspect. In addition, 31-year-old Ortega is interested in more stable playing practice, which the club is not able to guarantee for him with Ederson alive and healthy.
The German footballer, whose current contract runs until 2025, could leave the club this coming summer.
Ortega came to Manchester City from Arminia as a free agent in the summer of 2022 and signed a three-year contract. In August 2023, it was reported that Bayern were interested in the goalkeeper, but then Pep Guardiola did not want to let him go.
Over two seasons, Ortega played 33 matches for the City, conceding 25 goals. In more than half of the matches (17), Stefan managed to keep the goal intact. In the 2023/24 season, the German played 19 matches for the club (eight to zero), conceding 18 goals.
Manchester City, we remind you, became the champion of England at the end of the season, two points ahead of Arsenal in the table. On May 25, Guardiola’s team will play in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
