The UAF officially thanked the Lithuanian Football Federation for canceling the match between the women’s national team and the Belarusian team

The Ukrainian side expressed to its colleagues “sincere respect and gratitude for the constant, reliable and strong support” of our country

Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) sent to management Lithuanian Football Federation an official letter in which she thanked the friendly country for refusing to play with the accomplices of the aggressor (the team Belarus) in qualification European Women’s Championship.

The letter signed by UAF President Andrei Shevchenko and the organization’s Secretary General Igor Grishchenko, in particular, says:

“On behalf of the Ukrainian Football Association team, allow us to take another opportunity to express our sincere respect and gratitude for your constant, reliable and strong support for Ukraine. “In addition, we really appreciate the public position and comments of the LFF leadership, which reminds the world that the brutal war in Ukraine is not over yet and the football family should not forget this and endure it in silence.”

Let us remind you that the women’s national teams of Lithuania and Belarus were supposed to meet on May 31 and June 4 in the 2025 European Championship qualifications, but these matches were officially canceled. In both meetings, the Lithuanian team will receive a technical defeat of 0:3, and the Lithuanian Football Federation will be fined five thousand euros.

LFF President Edgaras Stankevičius said on this occasion: “In this case, sanctions and fines are not the main issues; it was important to once again recall the position of the Lithuanian Football Federation in relation to the war and aggressors.”

The Lithuanian team will complete the first round of the qualifying tournament with two matches – on July 12 it will play an away match with Cyprus, and on July 16 it will play a home match with Georgia.

Teams from Belarus are allowed to take part in UEFA competitions, but must play their home games outside the country and without spectators.
