The US House of Representatives has asked the FBI and the IOC to investigate the Chinese swimmers.

The Chairman of the United States House of Representatives Select Committee on Strategic Competition with China, John Molenaar, and Committee Member Raja Krishnamoorthy, have asked the United States Department of Justice and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as the director of the FBI, to open a formal investigation into the case of positive doping tests among Chinese swimmers

Earlier, media reported that in January 2021, 23 Chinese swimmers had positive doping tests for trimetazidine. Then Chinese athletes were allowed to compete in the Tokyo Olympics. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on April 13 that it was not punishing Chinese athletes because it could not refute the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency’s (CHINADA) verdict that a banned substance was unintentionally introduced. in the bodies of athletes.

“This scandal raises serious legal, ethical and competitive concerns and may represent a broader strategy by the Chinese government to compete unfairly in the Olympics.” It is necessary to assess whether these alleged doping practices were state-sponsored, which may require additional diplomatic action by the United States and the international community. Additionally, with less than 100 days until the 2024 Olympics in Paris, understanding the full extent of the scandal is critical to ensuring that U.S. athletes compete fairly, the ad hoc committee said in its letter.

The Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
