Acting head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Anton Sikharulidze and CEO Alexander Kogan spoke about the initiative to organize international club tournaments.

Russian figure skaters have been suspended from participating in competitions held under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.

— Last season, two club tournaments were organized. What are your plans in this direction for the next season? Our skaters regularly travel abroad for shows. Is there an idea of ​​organizing club tournaments abroad in order to bring together a more interesting lineup?

Sikharulidze:

— Here we constantly talk about organizing international club tournaments. We organize them, invite our colleagues and friends from friendly countries. But unfortunately we don’t see an active position yet. But we will continue to do it with perseverance and will not stop. If we talk about organizing tournaments in other countries, that’s a different story. We probably need to contact those who could organize these competitions there, not us. We are ready to accept everyone on our side and organize ourselves here. But speaking of competitions that could be organized in another country…

Kogan:

– We are a federation and we cannot do this. We cannot participate in international club competitions at all. As a national federation we are prohibited by ISU rules.

— You said that the federation cherishes figure skaters. Are we talking about the financial aspect?

Kogan:

– No, not only. Medical support and support for athletes, coaches, equipment.

Sikharulidze:

– First of all, it’s ice cream. In a Western country, you have to pay for every minute of ice cream.

Kogan:

– For every minute of the coach too.

Sikharulidze:

“And here, people drive six to eight hours a day. Can you imagine how much ice for training is provided to them either by the state, by the region, by the municipality, or by the federation? These are incredible numbers.
