The European and World Figure Skating Championships were held with the interest of spectators, there is no catastrophe in terms of spectators, said the acting president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) . Anton Sikharulidze .
Russian figure skaters have been suspended from participating in competitions held under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.
— Have you noticed a drop in spectator interest during international tournaments?
— This year, I saw nothing extraordinary; the European Championships took place completely normally. There were a sufficient number of spectators. Likewise, the World Cup was held in Canada, there were spectators for all the events. I wouldn’t call it some kind of disaster in terms of viewers. Perhaps we can say that the results of these tournaments are strange if the strongest do not participate in them. The viewer continues to love figure skating,” reports correspondent Sikharulidze.
FFKKR general director Alexander Kogan said the federation had not changed its position on the age limit issue.
— Concerning the interpretation of the age limit that has come into force. How will our federation interpret this moment?
— As before, we adhere to our vision. Athletes will participate in adult tournaments from the age of 16. At the same time, it must be said that the rules of synchronized skating have changed, athletes will also compete there from the age of 16,” Kogan said.
