Russian skier Ivan Gorbunov believes that the three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov in international competitions it would show results not inferior to those of Russia.
Last season, 27-year-old Bolshunov won 25 victories in personal races.
— To what extent can Bolshunov be an indicator of the level of preparation of other Russian skiers? Sanya is a litmus test. He is the strongest baseline player in the world, just head and shoulders above everyone else. He is now truly at the peak of his masculine power. I think that at international competitions Bolshunov would show the same results as in Russia. There are of course races that fail. But you know he never stops running? It’s just that at the same classic race of the Russian Championship he was so stunned that he left on foot. But we have such a strong competition in men’s skiing that it’s simply wow! Chervotkin, Ardashev, Korostelev, Maltsev, Yakimushkin, Spitsov – send anyone to the World Cup and he will fight for the medals,” Gorbunov told the “Championship”.
Currently, Russian skiers are not allowed to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the FIS due to the situation in Ukraine.
