Universiade champion athlete Smirnov suspended for four years for violating anti-doping rules

The Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) disqualified the athlete Valentina Smirnova For four years reported on the organization’s website.

Smirnov was sanctioned for violating paragraphs 4.1 and 4.2 of the All-Russian Anti-Doping Rules (presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites, Markers in a Sample, Use or Attempted Use of a Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method) .

The 36-year-old’s suspension will begin on July 20, given the time spent on the provisional suspension.

Smirnov specializes in middle-distance running. He won gold at the 2013 Universiade in Kazan at a distance of 1500 meters, won the European team championships, the Russian championship.
