The fight lasted almost two hours
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina won a difficult victory over Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic in the first round of the main draw Roland Garros 2024.
Elina started the match with a successful break, but then lost four games in a row and was forced to give the set to her opponent – 3:6. In the second game, the Ukrainian managed to get revenge – at the decisive moment, with the score 5:4, she completely took Pliskova’s serve.
In the decisive set, the Czech woman resisted until the score was 2:2 – after which the Ukrainian tennis player won four games in a row. In the second round she will fight with the winner of the French duel Fiona Ferro – Diane Parry.
Last year at Roland Garros, Svitolina reached the quarterfinals. In the updated WTA rankings, Elina lost two positions and now ranks 19th, just above Marta Kostyuk.
Let us remind you that earlier Dayana Yastremskaya won her opening match at the French Open, defeating Ajla Tomljanovic from Australia in three sets. Her initiative was supported by Kostyuk, who in a strong-willed style defeated Laura Pigossi from Brazil, coming back from 0:4 in the third set.
