Cyclist Burlakova talks about her Tula Grand Prix sprint victory: “I got sick before the start, but I managed in the end”

World Track Cycling Championship medalist Yana Burlakova told that she fell ill before the start of the Tula Grand Prix and could have withdrawn from the competition, which ultimately became victorious for her .

Burlakova edged out Alina Lysenko in the two-run sprint final.

— This year the weather in Tula is surprisingly warm. In the evening the sun set and we started to warm up. The races went well, they didn’t shake like last year. At 200m I expected better seconds, but how did I do? Everything that is done is for the best. The hardest part was the beginning of the day, then the excitement took over and everything ended well. I was a little sick, they even wanted to withdraw from the competition if it got worse. But in the end I survived, everything is fine.

—Was the sprint interesting?

– Yes, I rode with Anastasia Voinova after her long absence (maternity leave – approximately), there was a very close fight.

— What is the next step according to your plans?

“I will go to the Moscow Grand Prix and the St. Petersburg Grand Prix,” Burlakova told .
