Ishchenko: “We want the Baltic Sea Cup to become a traditional start in the swimmers’ calendar”

Five-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming and Minister of Sports of the Kaliningrad region Natalia Ishchenko in a conversation with , she expressed hope that the Baltic Sea Cup will become a traditional start in the calendar of Russian swimmers.

The competition will take place for the first time on August 1-2 in Kaliningrad.

“We are very happy that the All-Russian Swimming Federation already trusts us to organize such important competitions. At the stage of the Russian Cup, Vladimir Valerievich Salnikov proposed to organize such a large tournament at the Avtotor Arena sports palace. It seems to me that it is very important when a region gets involved in hosting such competitions – it is a huge motivation for the younger generation, they will have the opportunity to meet the leaders of the national team, to learn a lot from them, and see the recordings.

I would really like this tournament to become traditional for us. All this becomes possible thanks to the fact that we have facilities that meet the standards necessary for organizing such competitions.

—Are you expecting a star cast?

— We are waiting for the leaders. The competitions were included in the calendar in such a way that after the final of the Russian Cup, the athletes would come to Kaliningrad.

— The swimmers constitute a large delegation. Are you ready for this?

— We have already accumulated a lot of experience. We also organize competitions at this level in other sports. We are always happy to see a large number of athletes,” Ishchenko told .
