Olympic champion Natalia Bestemyanova told that if Russian figure skaters want to change their sports citizenship, they have the right to do so.
Earlier, learned that a 15-year-old student of the Evgeni Plushenko Academy Sofia Titova received an exemption from the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) and will represent Armenia.
On May 24, FFKKR General Director Alexander Kogan announced that figure skater Sofya Samodelkina had been released to the Kazakhstan national team. Like Titova, she trains in Plushenko’s group.
— I don’t know this girl (Titova) very well. Either way, there’s nothing we can do. We do not live in serfdom. If they wish, they have the right to move.
— This is already the second student of Evgeni Plushenko who changes sports citizenship. Sofia Samodelkina will skate for Kazakhstan. Is there some sort of pattern to this, or in this case, just a coincidence?
— Samodelkina began the transition process while she was still in Svetlana Sokolovskaya’s group. There is no trend here,” Bestemyanova told .
15-year-old Titova is the winner of the stages of the Russian Youth Grand Prix and a medalist at the Moscow Championship. Last season, the figure skater won first place in the tournament for the prizes of Angelica Krylova and Oleg Ovsyannikov, third place in the All-Russian competition “Heart of Russia” and 10th place in the All-Russian competition “Idel”.
