According to the unwritten rule of rotation of continents, Asia, along with Africa, claimed to host the Olympics after Europe (Paris 2024), America (Los Angeles 2028) and Oceania (Brisbane 2032). Among Qatar’s competitors for hosting the 2036 Games was, in particular, Egypt.
One of the main arguments in favor of Doha was reportedly the fact that the capital of Qatar has successfully hosted major international competitions over the past ten years: the 2015 World Handball Championships, the 2016 World Cycling Championships, the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the 2018 World Championships in Athletics 2019, World Football Championship 2022, World Swimming Championship 2024. The future men’s basketball world championship, which will take place in 2027, can be added to the same list.
In addition, Doha hosted the 2006 Asian Games, and in 2030 will again host this continental multi-sport event, which will be considered as a dress rehearsal for the 2036 Olympic Games.
Let us remind you that the 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11. At the competitions, 329 sets of awards will be played in 32 sports. On May 20, Ukraine officially confirmed its participation in this event. To date, Ukrainian athletes have won 105 licenses for the 2024 Olympic Games.
