Vincenzo Italiano: Fiorentina played as they should play in the final

Violets lost minimally to Olympiacos

Head coach Fiorentina Vincenzo Italiano commented on the defeat from Olympiacos in the final Conference Leagues.

“We again had many chances to score goals, the guys did everything they could. I don’t think we deserved to lose this game, which could have ended in a penalty shootout. This is a huge disappointment for me.”

“I think the team played as they should play in the final. We had chances to take the lead. You have to be cool in games like this, but they scored at the end. It’s frustrating because in Europe it’s hard to go all the way to the end. This is a huge disappointment.”

“In matches like this, losing leaves a bitter taste. But we have laid a good foundation. Fiorentina has a lot of talented young people and we need to understand where we can improve. We had a good season, but once again fell just short of the finish line.”

In the decisive match of the tournament, Olympiacos triumphed over Fiorentina (1:0). The winning goal was scored by Ayoub El-Kaabi in the 116th minute of the match. For the Greeks, this victory was the first in European competition.

The best player of the final was the Moroccan El-Kaabi. The nominees for the Conference League Player of the Week award are also known.
