In May 2022, the executive committee of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) disqualified Voronkov, then head of Lokomotiv, for two years for racially insulting Uralochka’s Cuban volleyball player Ailama Montalvo. Later, the second year of disqualification of the coach was replaced by a suspended year and Voronkov can return to his position as coach. On the same day, Voronkov, in a conversation with , said that he was not racist and made a sincere public apology to Montalvo, whom he did not want to offend.
