The club’s current agreement with the coach runs until the summer of 2025
London Arsenalhas reportedly prepared a new contract proposal for Mikel Arteta. The parties will soon sit down at the negotiating table.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club is very pleased with the Spanish specialist, and the feeling is mutual. The parties are not against forming a long-term relationship. Mikel’s current contract expires in the summer of 2025.
Arteta has been in charge of Arsenal since December 2019. In the first two seasons under the leadership of the Spaniard, the team finished eighth in the Premier League, and also won the FA Cup and Super Cup. Then progress came: fifth position, and already in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons the Gunners seriously fought for the championship with Manchester City.
In the just-past campaign, Arsenal scored their maximum number of points (89) since their last championship, which happened exactly 20 years ago. In the summer of 2023, Arteta won his third trophy at the head of the London club, beating Man City on penalties in a match for the Community Shield. In addition, Mikel returned Arsenal to the Champions League, where he reached the quarter finals.
Ukrainian Alexander Zinchenko spent the controversial 2023/24 season for Arsenal. The 27-year-old player played 35 matches in all competitions last season, scored one goal and provided two assists. In the spring part of the season, the Ukrainian lost his place in the starting lineup, not least because of an injury that kept him out of action for about a month in February.
