I will say right away, I also watched the movie “Beyond the Limit”. For the uninitiated, this is the one in which Irina Aleksandrovna Viner it seems that she mentally drowned Margarita Mamun, and despite everything, she took and won Olympic gold. “You are complete shit”, “Dedicate the program to your dying father” – yes, I saw it all, no need to remember that. I will say more, I even had a little dialogue with the director of the film, Martha Prus, and I know that some details were not included in the rental version. The details are not the most pleasant, you will understand.
And even more I will say – in “Beyond” the pure truth is shown. And the movie itself is generally the greatest sports drama ever made. Check it out now if you haven’t already.
And then ask yourself – how can people like Irina Alexandrovna Viner after that?
My acquaintance with her began quite late. Even now, as I type these lines, I recall from memory almost every second of the events of August 7 last year, when Dina Averina’s dreams were drowned in the swamp of the most despicable court scandal of our time. I remember losing Lina Ashram in the feed, I remember Dina tears in the mixed zone. I remember my feelings when a person stands in front of you whose life was shattered 30 minutes ago. She started the conversation with the words: “Well, cry again, or what?”, And then answered all the questions that I personally did not want to ask at all. For me personally, this mixed zone of Dina is perhaps the clearest example of perseverance, self-control and professionalism. Many in his place would simply take it and run away from reporters. And she is not.
And after that, in the Ariake Arena press center, we discussed what happened with Irina Alexandrovna. We talked for about 25 minutes, then, on the emotions, I offered to make a film about this whole situation, she accepted.
From that moment, I started to know her as a human being. Before that, everything I heard about Irina Viner boiled down to the image, if not of absolute evil, at least of a person who causes suffering like that, out of whim. Over time, I realized that…
And I don’t know what I understood. Only one thing can be said unequivocally: Wiener is a person whose actions you want to analyze under the microscope. She is monumental in everything she says and does. Communicating with her, you realize how huge a person can be, while remaining graceful and elegant.
It’s double in all. Ambiguous and changeable, like Moscow weather in summer. He shouts at the gymnasts, but at the same time he sincerely cares for them and loves them – and not as a means to achieve a result, the result of a cold calculation, but somehow other warmly. Hot even. Humanly.
I myself heard several stories about how Irina Aleksandrovna personally dealt with athletes and coaches. Not from Moscow, not from the top ranks of the national team, but from deaf and unpromising regions. She helped with money when her salary was delayed, paid doctors, even when it was not necessary. I can’t imagine anyone else in his place who would do the same thing.
And all this – against the background of talk about rigidity, sometimes prohibitive. True, as the aforementioned stories were told to me first hand.
She’s also… modest. From the stylish and eye-catching images of Irina Aleksandrovna, the media make up tops and selections. Expensive hats, jackets, jackets, emerald shoes, furs – a wealthy Wiener person can even afford to get the Moon from the sky and put it in the backyard of his country house. I can’t rule out that, if it were possible, she wouldn’t resist the temptation…
You see such a bright Irina Alexandrovna at competitions and social events, and then you find out that for many hours of intensive training in Novogorsk she dines on ordinary buckwheat porridge brought in a container. You look at her eye-catching manicure, and then they tell you she’s a golden lady in every way — sometimes she does it at home on an ironing board.
It is important for her to be stylish in public, to show class. Including for their gymnasts. Serve them a living example of grooming and shine. But on the inside, she has absolutely no qualms about being an ordinary person, even though, due to her status, obviously, she hasn’t been ordinary for a long time.
She can be unpredictable. As dangerous as an active volcano. Sharp and sudden, like lightning in May. But never before, in my memory, has Irina Alexandrovna openly placed herself above those around her, as people of her level sometimes do.
Power? Undoubtedly. Domination? To some extent, yes. Lordship? Well, maybe yes. Or is it all the same philanthropy, of which it is really at the limit?
I write these lines and try to answer the question for myself, what is it really? And I understand that this whole process doesn’t make much sense. Its main value is in that mystery and ambiguity that you want to ponder. I guess that’s what really sets great people apart. They desperately want to understand, even realizing that it is hardly possible.
Happy birthday, Irina Aleksandrovna! Shine like only you can.
