The Olympic champion in fencing clashed with athletes from the aggressor country.
Athletes from the Russian Federation take the “ostrich position” and try not to see what is happening in Ukraine. This opinion was shared by the Olympic champion in fencing Olga Kharlan. According to him, not a single athlete from the Russian team has called since the beginning of the war. Now the athlete himself does not want to talk to any of them.
“Are there any texts or calls from colleagues in Russia? Zero. On the first day, one person wrote to me. The second person who understood the situation and tried against everything. No one from the Russian team, the some have my personal number. Now it doesn’t make sense that I should have done it earlier, I didn’t expect anything, it’s too late.
Do you think it bothers them? Do they think about it too? I do not think so. I think it’s a defensive reaction – it’s better not to know, don’t react in any way. If you haven’t seen it, it doesn’t exist.
You think anyone cares that Harlan isn’t home now, his family is being slandered. You think someone cares that Khomrova’s father died. Some of the fencers were displaced by a flying projectile. And we are throwing away money for at least some lives.
They do not care. I’m more than sure it is. At least I don’t see any – no mercy. They are afraid to say – well, more afraid. There should be some kind of justice – they should stay home,” Harlan Direct FM quotes.
