Silver medalist at the 2012 World Championships in women’s singles Alena Leonova told that Russian figure skaters will not lose motivation due to the extension of their suspension from international tournaments.
Previously, Honorary Vice President of the International Skating Union (ISU) Alexander Lakernik said that the issue of admitting Russians to international tournaments in the 2024/25 season was not discussed.
“The situation is just as critical as before; it is not very good for our athletes, as it was in previous years of suspension. I would like to hope that the pre-Olympic season will be in our favor, that everything will fall into place, that’s important. I don’t think skaters will lose motivation because of the extended suspension; everyone skated during those seasons. The situation is difficult, but we cannot influence it in any way. All we can do is wait, hope and believe,” Leonova told .
Russian athletes have been suspended from participating in competitions under the auspices of the ISU since 2022. A congress of the international organization will be held in Las Vegas from June 10 to 14.
