World Swimming Championships medalist suspended for four years for anti-doping rule violation

World Swimming Championships medalist Kensey McMahon has been suspended for four years for anti-doping rule violations, according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) website.

The 24-year-old athlete tested positive for vadadustat (an anemia medication) during the US National Championships in July 2023. The athlete passed the test on July 1, 2023 at the National Championship, where she became third in the 1500 (07/16/78).

USADA agreed to delay the arbitration hearing to give McMahon the opportunity to determine the source of the positive test result.

The athlete herself posted on social media her acknowledgment of the suspension, but noted that extensive testing did not reveal an obvious source of infection.

McMahon is a bronze medalist at the 2022 World Championships in the short course over a distance of 1,500 meters.
