Svatok: In the match with Germany we had to show our best, the result did not come first

The defender is confident that the sparring will benefit the Ukrainian national team

Defender Ukrainian national team Alexander Svatok commented on the test match with the national team Germany (0:0), which took place in Nuremberg in preparation for European Championship 2024.

“The impressions are positive, because, by the way, we played away with the German national team. This is a very powerful team with many top-level players. We defended fairly well and responded with counterattacks. There were moments when we controlled the ball for several minutes. This game will completely benefit us.”

“Before the match, the coaching staff told us that the main thing is to go out onto the field and show your best. To carry out what we have been playing for these three or four days. But the result did not come first. Although every time you play for the national team, you want to win, it doesn’t matter whether it’s an official match or not. The guys gave it their all, well done.”

“Andrei Yarmolenko is already bullying me, joking that I only play for the national team against top teams when I need to suffer. Like, I’m pursuing a career, I don’t play with weak teams. In this match we could feel the atmosphere of the upcoming Euro. In Ukraine, sometimes we play one match for five hours without spectators, so it was important to see a full stadium,” the defender said.

The match in Nuremberg was the first in a series of June sparring matches of the Ukrainian national team on the eve of the 2024 European Championship. On June 7, the blue-yellows will play a test match with the Polish team. Next, on the 11th, Rebrov’s team will play in Chisinau with the Moldavian national team.

At the Euro 2024 group stage, the blue-yellows will successively play against the national teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
