Yegor Cheloshkin, general physical training coach of the group of Alexei Mishin, in an interview with , spoke about the difference in learning complex jumps for boys and girls of different ages.
– Let’s discuss Elizaveta Tuktamysheva’s signature triple axel: what preparatory exercises help her?
– When I joined the group, Lisa already had this axel in her arsenal. It was important for her not to miss the jump and to keep herself in good physical shape. For this jump, speed-strength qualities are important, first of all, explosive muscle strength and coordination abilities. In the gym, we often practice jumping on bedside tables of different heights (one leg or two), we perform movements that come as close as possible to a jump. To determine the correct grouping, Lisa spins around the living room and jumps with Mishin’s vests.
– Why are quad jumps easier for boys? After all, for many years it was widely believed that girls couldn’t jump a quad.
– Just recently I spoke with Lisa about why quads are incredibly difficult for her. The main reason is in the different structure of the body. However, the female is arranged differently and after puberty it is much more difficult to master such a jump. Today, figure skating is getting younger, and many girls conquer the quadruple long before puberty. And boys can start learning it much later, as their shapes are subject to less dramatic changes.
