Russian cyclist Gleb Syritsa of the Astana Qazaqstan team took second place in the final stage of the ZLM Tour multi-day race, which took place in the Netherlands.
Syritsa lost in a photo finish to Dane Alexander Selby of the Bingoal WB team. The third was the Italian Jakub Mareczko (Team Corratec – Vini Fantini).
“We had a great day, we felt good and the guys did a phenomenal job, especially Rudy Zelig and Max Kanter. They provided me with excellent transportation for the sprint. The last kilometer turned out to be quite chaotic due to the climb to the bridge 700 meters before the finish line. This is where the Danish rider launched his attack. Max followed him, we reached the finish line, where after 350 meters I opened the sprint.
Victory was close, but the distance was just a little short. Overall we had a very good week on the ZLM Tour, it’s just a shame that there was a technical fault in the final of the third stage, which did not allow us to compete for the general classification. Well, in general, it’s a shame that we didn’t achieve victory on this stage. But overall health is good, so we will continue to work and prepare for the next races,” Syritsa was quoted as saying by the team’s press service.
In the general classification, the Russian became sixth. The Belgian Rune Herregodts (Intermarché – Wanty) won, the British Max Walker (Astana Qazaqstan) finished second and the Swiss Tom Boly (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) third.
