Seven-time Olympic synchronized swimming champion Svetlana Romashina believes that the International Swimming Federation (FINA) has made the right decision regarding the participation of transgender people in competitions.
FINA is setting up a working group that will create a separate group for transgender participation in competitions. The rules for the participation of trans women in women’s competitions have also been tightened – the transition must begin before puberty.
— FINA has decided on a separate category in such cases. I think it’s absolutely the right decision. We have to adhere to the original rules, the original rules of nature. We have to be faithful, but I think girls should compete with girls,” Romashina told reporters.
– In any case, FINA has already divided the participants into subgroups by this decision. For the rest, let’s wait for the case where a person who wants to change sex before the age of 12 appears, ”added, in turn, the double Olympic champion Vlada Chigireva.
