CAS plans to review Canada’s appeal regarding the redistribution of team tournament medals at the 2022 Olympic Games on July 22

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) plans to hear Canada’s appeal against the redistribution of team figure skating medals at the Beijing 2022 Games on July 22, said Michael Gistlinger, legal counsel for the International Skating Union (ISU). ).

In February, the CAS announced the registration of four appeals against the ISU decision regarding the redistribution of medals from the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games: from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), from the Russian Federation Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), skaters and the Canadian Figure Skating Federation. On Tuesday, the court announced that hearings on the Russian side’s appeals would be held on June 12.

— CAS has proposed a hearing date for the Canadian appeal of July 22, 2024. “We respect this proposal, but we hope that the CAS decision on the appeal against the redistribution of the 2022 Olympic medals will be rendered before the start of the Games in Paris,” Gistlinger said during a speech at the ISU congress.

At the end of January, the CAS suspended Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The Russian’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021 and her results have been canceled since that date. The athlete’s sample contained the banned drug trimetazidine.

The CAS decision led to a review of the results of the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Games, where the Russian team won. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second and the Russians will receive bronze. The Canadians took fourth place.

The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
