Former head coach of the Russian national volleyball team Tuomas Sammelvuo held a similar position in Poland “Zakse” according to the club’s press service.
– Of course, there were different proposals, but when there was interest from Zaksa, it was important for me. There is something here that you might call a culture of winners. I played for this club, so it is a great honor and pleasure for me to work here as a coach, Sammelvuo said.
At the end of February, the 46-year-old Finnish specialist left the post of head coach of Zenit Saint Petersburg. In May, All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) President Stanislav Shevchenko announced that the organization’s Presidium had decided not to renew the contract with Sammelvuo.
Under Sammelvuo’s leadership, the Russian team took second place at the Tokyo Olympics, losing to the French team in the final.
