A famous Ukrainian athlete in the past donated his award won in Athens 1997.
A well-known Ukrainian athlete, and current deputy head of the KMDA, Elena Govorova sold her medal to help the Ukrainian army. It happened at a charity auction “Victory starts with you.”
The former athlete put his bronze medal won at the World Championships in Athens in 1997 as a lot. Because of this, the medal was sold for six thousand dollars.
“When they asked me if you regret to give your medal, I answered that I do not have such an opinion. This is not my medal, but my country, each of you. This is the medal of my Ukraine, which I defended on the field of sports.
My country gave me such an opportunity to do what I love all my life, and now this medal will protect our country,” said Govorova.
As reported to the Kyiv City Council, all funds raised during the auction evening will be transferred to help specific units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the Territorial Defense Forces.
