“Our cities would like to host the Euro, but now they are fighting for freedom,” the video says
Ukrainian Football Association published a video with 13 players Ukrainian national teamwhose cities suffered as a result of Russian aggression or were occupied by a terrorist country, addressed the world on the eve of the start European Championship 2024.
Andrey Lunin and Mikhail Mudryk (hometown – Krasnograd, Kharkov region), Alexander Zinchenko (Radomyshl, Zhytomyr region), Nikolai Shaparenko (Velikaya Novoselka, Donetsk region), Ilya Zabarny (Kiev), Artem Dovbik (Cherkasy), Sergey Sidorchuk took part in the video recording (Zaporozhye), Victor Tsygankov (Vinnitsa), Ruslan Malinovsky (Zhitomir), Nikolay Matvienko (Saki, Crimea), Alexander Zubkov (Makeevka, Donetsk region), Maxim Taloverov and Anatoly Trubin (Donetsk).
The last three cities mentioned are under temporary occupation of the Russian Federation, as well as Gorlovka, the hometown of the national team’s head coach Sergei Rebrov.
The video ends with the words:
“Our cities would like to host the Euro. But now they are fighting not for the tournament, but for freedom. Support Ukraine!”
Today, the Ukrainian national team held an open training session in Wiesbaden, Germany, the capital of the federal state of Hesse in western Germany, located next to Mainz and Darmstadt, not far from Frankfurt. This city became the base city for Rebrov’s team during the continental championship.
At the group stage of the 2024 European Championship, the blue-yellows will play against the national teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
The European Championship starts tomorrow, June 14, at 22:00 Kyiv time, with the match Germany – Scotland. It will be served by a French brigade under the command of Clément Turpin.
