“I am sure that athletics will be as popular in Russia as figure skating” – Lysenko, high jumper

Silver medalist at the Russian World Championships Danil Lysenko said that the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) is doing everything to make this sport more popular in the country.

Lysenko won the high jump competition at the BRICS Games in Kazan on Saturday. The Russian showed a result of 2.30 meters. The second was Pavel Seliverstov (2.30), who lost to Lysenko in attempts, the third was Nikita Danilov (2.27). Both athletes represent the Belarusian national team.

— Few journalists came to see you, because you were talking nearby with Olympic champion Alina Zagitova. Do you think athletics will ever be as popular as figure skating?

– I’m sure it will happen. Our federation works, does everything for this, and athletics is becoming more and more popular in our country. We will also do everything that depends on us.

I had a long break from competitions, and the BRICS Games are an opportunity to remember all that atmosphere. It reminds me of the Youth Olympic Games, when you walk around the (Olympic) village, music is playing somewhere, ”reports a correspondent, reporting Lysenko’s words.

The BRICS Games take place in the capital of Tatarstan from June 13 to 23.
