European diving champion Nikita Shleicher told he would not be granted neutral status for a trip to the Paris Olympics.
On Saturday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) published on its website a list of 14 Russian athletes who, as of June 15, had received neutral status to participate in the Paris Games. Schleicher won the three-meter springboard diving competition at the BRICS Games in Kazan on Sunday.
— I will watch all the jumps at the Paris Olympics, except those for the girls. I’m curious to see what happens.
– If you played, then…
– This is a difficult question.
— Don’t you regret those who didn’t see anything at all? You have participated in international competitions.
“We’re all in this together now.” What can we do about this? I’m going to jump further, and then it will be visible.
— Athletes in other sports would benefit from neutral status if you were in their shoes, would they?
– Not me. I would not like to receive [нейтральный статус].
– For what?
– Because I am for Russia.
— If they get neutrality status, then they are not for Russia?
– Well, without a flag, without an anthem. They will leave alone, good luck.
— So how will you watch the Olympics, how will you react to our performances in other sports?
“Other sports don’t interest me,” Schleicher told .
The BRICS Games in the capital of Tatarstan will end on June 23.
