Athletistic / Olympic Games. The National Olympic Committee of the People’s Republic of China has announced the names of 23 swimmers who will make up the Chinese team for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, China. Eleven of them were involved in a doping scandal.
In 2022, the German television channel ARD conducted a journalistic investigation. Based on their results, the Germans announced that as of January 2021, 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for trimetazidine. It was this substance that was found in the blood of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, for which she was disqualified for four years. However, Chinese athletes have been allowed to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The World Anti-Doping Agency has asked independent prosecutor Eric Cottier to review the case, but no verdict has yet been reached.
China’s swimming team for the Paris Olympics included two-time Olympic champion Zhang Yufei, Olympic gold medalist Wang Shun and four-time world champion Qin Haiyang. It should be noted that all three were involved in ARD’s investigation.
