American runner Knighton acquitted after passing positive doping test

American runner who medaled at the World Championships Errion Knighton was acquitted after passing a positive doping test, according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) website.

The athlete tested positive for a trenbolone metabolite on March 26. Knighton has been temporarily suspended from competition since April 12. During the hearings which took place on June 14 and 16, the athlete was able to prove the accidental entry of the prohibited drug into the body.

An independent adjudicator at the hearing determined that Knighton’s positive test was most likely due to contamination from meat the athlete had consumed. Trenbolone is used in the United States as a growth stimulant in livestock. Knighton tested positive out of competition, so USADA decided not to disqualify the rider.

Knighton, 20, won bronze in the 200m at the 2022 World Cup and silver at the 2023 World Cup.
