St. Petersburg authorities can pay 5 million rubles to each winner of the Paris Olympics

The St. Petersburg government has set the amount of bonuses for achieving high results at the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, according to a draft resolution published on the website of the city administration.

It is planned that if winning gold, each St. Petersburg athlete will receive 5 million rubles from the city authorities. For silver medals, athletes will receive 2.5 million rubles, for bronze medals – 1.5 million.

Additionally, athletes who took fourth, fifth and sixth places will receive 678,000, 452,000 and 339,000 rubles, respectively.

Russian athletes will not participate in team sports at the Paris Olympics.

In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were relaxed and in December 2023, IOC head Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process for the 2024 Summer Olympics into a status individual neutral. Athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols.

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11.
