World Aquatics on Efimova’s bid to qualify for 2024 Olympics: ‘The final decision rests with the IOC’

The International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) told that the final decision on the participation of Olympic medalist and multiple world champion Yulia Efimova in the 2024 Games in Paris will be made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Efimova will try to qualify for the Olympic Games on June 23 at the Bahamas Championships. Earlier, the 32-year-old Russian won the 200m breaststroke at the meet, setting a meet record, but the posted time (2:29.09) did not qualify her for the 2024 Games over this distance (qualifying time for participation is 2:24.63). The athlete will now attempt to qualify in other rounds.

— All swimmers have until June 23 to demonstrate a qualifying time to compete in the Olympic Games or for that result to be considered (as qualification). As for neutral athletes, the final decision on who can compete at the 2024 Games in Paris will be made by the IOC individually for each athlete, the World Aquatics press service told .

In early April, the president of the All-Russian Swimming Federation (RSF), Vladimir Salnikov, called the upcoming Olympic Games a “turn of the page” for Russian swimmers who will not participate in these Games. He later told that no one would stop Efimova from competing in neutral status at the Paris Olympics.

The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
