“It is not surprising that this causes misunderstanding among many” – Goncharenko about ISU innovations

Honored Russian figure skating coach Inna Goncharenko told that innovations in the rules of the International Skating Union (ISU) cause confusion among many experts and spectators.

Earlier, the ISU Congress approved a reduction in the number of jumps in single skating from seven to six in free skating. There can be a maximum of two stunts/sequences in the singles free skate program. The decision will come into force in the 2026/27 season.

— There were debates, it was not adopted unanimously, there were numerous protests against it. In elite sport, when a certain perspective is taken… It is not surprising that this causes perplexity and incomprehension on the part of many. All changes always shake things up, we will have to rebuild programs, think about content differently.

It is true that only Olympic innovations will come into force. Time will tell if it provided entertainment or not. Spectators who come to singles skating competitions want to watch the jumps. The fight continues with stunts and jumps,” Goncharenko told .
