UEFA suspends Albania forward Daka for two matches

The Russian Rubin player was involved in offensive remarks against Serbia after the match with Croatia

The Albanian Football Federation reported that the Control, Disciplinary and Ethical Authority UEFA officially suspended the forward for two matches Albanian national team Mirlinda Daku.

It is known that the football player was involved in an incident that occurred at the end of the match between Albania and Croatia (2:2) in the second round of the 2024 European Championship.

Let us remember that a scandal erupted around that meeting on June 19. During the meeting, fans of both teams shouted “Kill, kill, kill the Serb,” which did not please the leadership of the Serbian Federation. The latter’s general secretary, Jovan Šurbatović, announced the possible withdrawal of Serbia from Euro 2024 if UEFA ignores this incident.

European football’s governing body responded quickly to the situation. UEFA’s statement noted that the organization’s appointed ethics and disciplinary officer will review the situation regarding possible racist and/or disciplinary behavior by fans at the match. According to reports, Daku, who came on as a substitute at the end of the match, was also seen making offensive remarks after the match.

Mirlind is 26 years old. Previously, he played for Albanian Kukesi, Kosovo Balkani, Croatian Osijek and Slovenian Mura. Since the summer of 2023, he has been a Ruby player from a terrorist country. He played 6 matches for his national team and scored one goal. Spent five minutes at Euro 2024 and managed to get a yellow card.

Albania and Croatia have one point each after two matches in Quartet B. In the final third round of the group stage, Albania (definitely without Daku) will play Spain, and Croatia will play Italy. Both matches will take place on Monday, June 24.
