Skaters aged 22-23 are already adult men, many have children, Honored Coach of Russia Inna Goncharenko told , commenting on the increase in the maximum age for junior pairs.

Earlier in June, the ISU Congress approved increasing the maximum age for junior pairs and ice dancers. The maximum age for female figure skaters in junior pair skating is now 21 and for female figure skaters 23. In ice dancing, athletes of both sexes will be able to compete in junior competitions up to the age of 21. Additionally, the age difference between the partners should not exceed seven years. Previously, in both disciplines, the maximum age for girls was 19 and for boys 21.

— There will be a difference between those who start in junior competitions and those who already finish their journey at this level. At 22-23 years old, he is already an adult. Of course, everyone develops individually, but by the age of 23, many already have children. This no longer applies to juniors.

There are often couples where the partner has exceeded the age limit and is still young… In such situations, this innovation can help, ”Goncharenko told .
