Olga Brusnikina, first vice-president of the Russian Synchronized Swimming Federation, said the mixed pair didn’t get a chance to compete in the Spartakiad of the Strongest due to tournament regulations.
The Spartakiad of the strongest takes place only in the Olympic disciplines. A mixed duo is not. Mixed pairs only compete for medals at World and European Championships. In 2021 the World Cup did not take place due to the pandemic, now they are suspended from international competitions until the end of the year amid the situation in Ukraine.
The mixed duos include four-time world champion Alexander Maltsev, multiple world champion Maya Gurbanberdieva and European champion Olesya Platonova.
– If I understood correctly, you made a request to the Ministry of Sports with the situation concerning the mixed duo.
– Yes. Spartakiad is an Olympic discipline, Brusnikina told .
But it is embarrassing for children.
– That’s a shame. But the rules are such that it takes place between the subjects of the Russian Federation, and there are not always mixed pairs there. And in the Spartakiad, the number of points is also implied – we must take this factor into account.
– So the mixed duo remains hostage to this system?
– If there was no points system, it would not be a problem. We understand that the position of the Ministry of Sports is to hold the Spartakiade in the Olympic disciplines.
