President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov reported that there is no ban on the participation of the multiple world swimming champion Yulia Efimova occur in Russia with a neutral status.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have individual neutral status without a flag, anthem or other national symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO. Efimova is the only Russian swimmer to benefit from neutral status.
“At present, we have no ban on the participation of neutral athletes in competitions on the internal calendar,” Salnikov told .
Efimova, 32, competed in the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021 Olympic Games, where she won two silver medals and one bronze. She was granted neutral status from World Aquatics in June and won three gold medals at the Bahamas National Championships, but failed to meet Olympic standards in the 100 and 200m breaststroke.
