Komarova – on Efimova’s selection for the Olympics: “It’s a shame for Yulia. But she’ll be fine.”

Olympic silver medalist in swimming Stanislava Komarov told that she was offended for the Russian athlete Yulia Efimova who failed to qualify for the Paris Games.

The Russian clocked 1.07.98 at the Bahamas Championships in the 100m breaststroke, taking first place. But that wasn’t enough to qualify for the 2024 Games. The A standard is 1.06.79, the B standard is 1.07.12.

“Yulia did everything she could to make her dream come true. She took advantage of this opportunity to make it to the Olympics, and it’s much better than blaming herself later for not trying. I’m really sorry about Yulia, I think she was of course upset. But in our sport, it’s always like this: sometimes you’re at the top, sometimes at the bottom. I think everything will be fine for Yulia,” Komarova told .

Efimova is 32 years old and competed in the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021 Olympic Games, where she won two silver medals and one bronze. It received neutral status from World Aquatics in June.
