Synchronized swimmers Svetlana Kolesnichenko And Alexander Maltsev said the new rules of their sport make it difficult to convey an image.
From the 2023 season, new rules apply in synchronized swimming which affect both scheduling and judging.
— We try to work according to these rules and maintain the enthusiasm that the Russian team has always had. I admire our coaching team, which always comes up with something new. Our mixed duos have simply incredible programs. We don’t stand still. I don’t know where our coaches get their inspiration from. New images are constantly being invented. We try to keep creativity within these rules. We have a little choreography left for creativity. We try to preserve our images. I hope the rules change in the future. It is clear that we will not return to the past. But I hope it all goes towards artistic swimming. Our task is to work and be creative. I hope we succeed,” Kolesnichenko said.
Maltsev supported Kolesnichenko, speaking about the difficulties in transmitting images after the introduction of new rules.
“Now it’s very difficult to convey an image. We are forced to adapt to the rules and chase away complexity. But it is not this complexity which reflects the level of the athletes. We have many elements that reflect complexity, but under the new rules they are worthless. We cannot transmit images because the choreography time has been reduced. We are very sad about this. But we are forced to adapt. We hope there will be global changes. “We are really looking forward to them,” reports the correspondent, according to Maltsev.
