The next Olympic Games in Paris will become inferior competitions; There is an urgent need to reform the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Russian Judo Federation (RJF) said in a statement.
Earlier Friday, President FDR Sergei Soloveichik in a commentary, said that Russian athletes who received an invitation from the IOC would not participate in the 2024 Games.
– We – FDR, athletes and progressive society – still love sports and honor traditions. We believe that sooner or later, reason and common sense will triumph in the Olympic movement. It is obvious that it is now urgent to reform the IOC.
We hope that these imperfect Paris Games will open the eyes of all conscious people in all countries and become a driving force for reform. The traditions of Olympism will be revived and will once again become a benchmark for fair competition, purity of sport, independence from political influences and a unifying factor for millions of people around the world, the organization said in a statement.
In February 2022, the IOC recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were softened, and in December 2023, IOC chief Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process to the 2024 Summer Games in an individual neutral status. The athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem, and other national symbols.
The Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11.
