Goalkeeper Benfica Anatoly Trubin personally confirmed that the club did not release him the Ukrainian Olympic team to participate in Olympics 2024 in Paris.
Earlier, the head coach of the Ukrainian Olympic team, Ruslan Rotan, said that he does not see much desire on the part of most clubs to help his team and release their players to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games.
22-year-old Trubin played two of the national team’s three matches in the Euro 2024 group stage – against Slovakia (2:1) and Belgium (0:0). In the latter case, he became a co-author of a unique achievement: the blue-yellows managed to avoid conceding goals in the final stages of the European Championship on their 13th attempt. Following both matches, Anatoly was recognized as the Lion of the Match.
Yesterday information appeared that the Ukrainian champion Shakhtar is ready to release five players to the Olympic team: goalkeeper Kirill Fesyun, midfielders Kirill Sigeev, Dmitry Kryskiv, Oleg Ocheretko and striker Danil Sikan.

Ruslan Rotan’s team defeated Indonesia U-20 (3:0) and Italy U-21 (4:0) in the group stage, defeated Panama U-23 (2:0) and Japan U-19 (2:1), and in the final they beat Cote d’Ivoire U-20 in a penalty shootout.
In the second half of the summer of 2024, Ukraine will take part in the Olympic football tournament for the first time in its history. Rotan’s team won a ticket to Paris last year, reaching the semi-finals of the European Youth Championship.
The Ukrainian national team will play at the 2024 Olympics with Argentina, Morocco and Iraq. In the first round, Rotan’s team will meet the Asian team on July 24.
The UAF had previously received letters from a number of foreign clubs refusing to let the Ukrainians participate in the tournament. The Olympic team will be without Yegor Yarmolyuk, Mykhailo Mudryk, Ilya Zabarnyi and Ivan Zhelizko.
