A documentary has been released on the Netflix streaming service about the fighters of the legendary Third Separate Assault Brigade “We were recruits”. The film was created by the talented Ukrainian director Lyubomir Levitsky, also known for such films as: “Shadows of Unforgotten Ancestors”, “Follow Me” and “Adit”.
“We Were Recruits” became one of the most successful documentaries in the history of Ukraine. Having been released nationally on May 2, the film was watched by more than 32,000 viewers in four weeks, and the box office receipts exceeded UAH 5.2 million. This result is the second highest in box office among Ukrainian documentaries after Mstyslav Chernov’s “20 Days in Mariupol”, which received an Oscar.
The film centers on a serviceman with the call sign “Journalist” who, instead of describing historical events for the media, decides to become part of them and join the decisive battle.
Viewers will have the opportunity to hear stories directly from the participants of the events, as the actors in the film are real servicemen of the brigade. Their stories will reveal more to us than any reports, helping each viewer to understand the meaning of real courage and selflessness.
“This work for me is a film-message, a film-motivation and a film-manifesto for future recruits, as well as for the world audience, so that they can understand what they are – the real heroes of today. In his interviews, our hero reveals the fighters not only as professional soldiers, but also as ordinary people, philosophers, just guys who dream of a family and a peaceful life in a peaceful country,” says Lyubomir Levitsky.
“We Were Recruits” is not just a film. It is a sincere and emotional story about ordinary people who became heroes. It highlights stories of courage, friendship and self-sacrifice. This film is an invitation to join history, to fight for every day, for every moment of life.
According to Lyubomir Levitsky, “We Were Recruits” was filmed without the use of state funds. The co-producer and patron of the film was the president of the Favbet Foundation charity fund, Andrey Matyukha.
The film is now available to watch on Netflix for registered subscribers and users of the platform.
