Two-time volleyball world champion Ekaterina Gamova said she would never change her view that all athletes should take the chance to compete in the Olympic Games.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were relaxed, and in late 2023, the IOC announced the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes who had successfully passed the selection to the 2024 Olympic Games in an individual neutral status.
“I have always wished that all athletes would take their chance and go to the Olympics. I will never change my mind. I will support them, even if my compatriots face a barrage of negativity towards them. The Olympics have not lost their importance. This is one of the most important competitions,” Gamova was quoted as saying by “Championship.”
The games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11.
