Athletistic / Combat. World champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Georgian Nugzari Tsurtsumiya, has died at the age of 27. The press service of the Georgian Wrestling Federation reported the tragic news.
Earlier it was reported that the athlete was found dead at his home in Khobi (Georgia). According to preliminary information, Nugzari committed suicide.
“The Russian Wrestling Federation, our athletes and coaches express their sincere condolences to the Georgian Wrestling Federation, family and friends of Nugzari Tsurtsumiya. We are deeply mourning with you,” the FSBR press service said in a statement.
Nugzari Tsurtsumiya became the world champion in 2019. He competed in the weight category up to 55 kg. He also has two silver and two bronze medals at the world championships, as well as one silver and three bronze at the European championships.
